Sometimes that is true. More often, people are responding rationally to the system around them. Every organization has a hidden curriculum. It teaches people what is safe, what is rewarded, what is ignored, and what actually matters. Over time, those lessons become part of the culture, even when they contradict what leaders say they value. This week’s article is about a pattern I see in nearly every organization I work with: your organization produces the behavior it rewards. If you do not like the behavior you are seeing, the place to look first is not the people. It is the system.
